Promotions, Salary Increases, and Career Advancement

  • Advancing your Career in 2025

You want to move forward in your career, maybe make a leap into leadership or that next salary tax bracket , but you don’t have a sharp sense on how to make it happen. Perhaps you’ve tried and have hit a couple of setbacks.

A lot of men I work with in Arlington and DC come in feeling lost and semi-defeated with their career trajectory. By the time we’re done, they’re clearer on what they want next, they’ve landed roles they’re proud of, at companies that actually value them, often with a salary bump and a better sense of well-being at work.

  • What's not working in 2025?

Simply working hard, being dependable, and waiting patiently won't earn you a promotion or that director position.

Promotions are awarded to those who actively seek them by demonstrating leadership, finding a sponsor in their org, taking initiative, and aligning their efforts with organizational goals. If you're not proactively managing your career trajectory, you're likely to be overlooked and underpaid.

  • What's working in 2025?

To advance, you first need to understand what you want (influence, compensation, validation, all the above) and why you want it. Not having at least a semi-clear goal in mind means you can’t calibrate if you’re going in the right direction. It can also limit how much help mentors and sponsors can give to you. Others can offer quality guidance or step up to bat for you when you can communicate clearly what you want and why.

Beyond that, advancement is a mix of exceeding your manager's expectations, identifying who has influence over your advancement, actively promoting your accomplishments, building relationships across the organization, taking initiative, and timing your moves.

  • What sets me apart?

I’m relatable, experienced, and empathetic. I see myself as the ultimate dual threat to help you quarterback your next promotion or raise (Lamar Jackson, but make him a career counselor).

In the past 10 years, I’ve worked at multiple leading companies (Uber and Garner) and earned a few promotions along the way, but many of my choices (hello, going to grad school for counseling) definitely slowed my career growth. I’ve learned both what works and what doesn’t work when you’re trying to get ahead professionally in 2025.

At the same time, I’m trained and licensed to support you through the intense, often unwanted, and conflicting emotions that come up when trying to advance your career.
